Student life

The Student Chapter of Gender/Sexuality Research Group (established in the 2023/2024 academic year) is an initiative that aims at introducing feminist, queer, and gender theories to students, as well as creating an inclusive community that promotes open discussions revolving around these topics.

Together, we will create a platform for students, offering support in organizing workshops, book clubs, film screenings, seminars, and presentations of research projects within gender and sexuality studies. In the academic year 2024/2025, we opened our first call for papers, inviting students from the UW community and beyond to submit their event ideas. The main goal of our activity is to support presenters in preparing for future academic presentations, while also sharing knowledge on how to organize academic events in theory and practice.

So far, the Student Chapter has organized 12 events such as:

  1. Second Wave of Feminism – History, Affect, Audiovisual Archive. Conversation with Professor Agnieszka Graff based on Mary Dore’s documentary She’s Beautiful When She’s Angry. [15.01.2024]
  2. Postfeminism, bimbo feminism and Greta Gerwig’s Barbie. On feminist praxis in the era of cultural neoliberalism. Hosted by Oliwia Kulikowska. [26.02.2024]
  3. Meeting with Sarah Ahmed. Discussing The Feminist Killjoy Handbook and Expressing Killjoy Solidarity. Hosted by Aleksandra Julia Malinowska, Oliwia Kulikowska, and Kamila Klavia Bagińska. [13.05.2024]

  5. Solidarity in Struggle. A Conversation with Sarah Schulman. Hosted by Julia Wajdziak. [18.02.2025]
