Ludmiła Janion

Ludmiła Janion is a cultural studies scholar, assistant professor at the American Studies Center, University of Warsaw, and a member of the Gender/Sexuality Research Group. Her research interests focus on the cultural and social changes of the 1990s in Poland and Europe, sexuality studies and queer theory. From 2021-2023, she led a project on the neoliberalization of masculinity funded by the “New Ideas” IDUB program. Since 2024, she has been working on National Science Center’s Sonata grant “Transformations of heteromasculine intimacies in Poland in the transition era (1987-1999).” She is a member of the QueerIt: Queer Theory in Transit team (NCN Opus). Her research findings have been published in Sexualities, Text and Performance Quarterly, Journal of Homosexuality and Pamiętnik Literacki, among others. She is the recipient of the UW Rector’s Award for Publication Achievement and the UW Rector’s Distinction for Academic Achievement. In addition to her work at the American Studies Center, Dr. Janion has also taught at the Faculty of “Artes Liberales”, University of Warsaw and at the Postgraduate Gender Studies Program run by the Institute of Literary Research of the Polish Academy of Sciences. Most eagerly, she teaches gender/sexuality studies and methodologies of cultural studies.  From time to time, Dr. Janion popularizes the basics of American studies and gender studies at various meetings with young people and adults.
